Looking for the perfect fall outfits to start wearing right now? These everyday outfits blend both timeless and trendy fashion for the chicest fall style yet!
There’s nothing like “Back to School” week to really bring on the fall outfit inspo. Temperatures in my hometown are already cooling down by evening; the humidity is dissipating (bring on the good hair days, please).
As I was shopping with my daughter for fall school outfits, I confess I was so close to buying everything–and I mean a copy of everything I was buying for her, lol. The homage to the late ’90s is just too good to pass up. While I never want to go back to those insecure (borderline mortifying) days of my childhood, I’ll jump into those throwback style trends quicker than you can say pumpkin spice.
I digress. I’m all about saving at the moment, so I opted for a few things that had been on my list for the past year or so and called it a successful shopping day.
That’s where this post comes in. What to wear for fall when you’re on a budget–a mix of timeless classics with the best of 2024 fall fashion trends. How to style your clothes for transitioning into fall. I use my favorite style method of juxtaposition to create these chic fall outfits, perfect for early fall and easy to layer with as the weather cools down.
Here are six fall outfits that will transition you into autumn, regardless of your style type or budget this season.
This post is all about fall outfits.
Best Fall Outfits
1. Simple Black Dress + Knit Jacket
The best thing about an LBD is that you can reinvent it for autumn with a trendy fall jacket such as a bomber or a lady jacket. A great fall outfit for those mornings when there’s a chill to the air, but, come afternoon, it’s warm and sunny. Styled with ballet flats or boots, you can’t ever go wrong with a fall black dress outfit for work or play!
Use accessories or a statement piece to add a personal touch to your LBD, so it never gets old.

2. Suede Jacket + Matching Top/Pants + Riding Boots
My fall outfit inspo always includes a pair of riding boots. I think of them as a rite of passage when entering these months. And no pair of riding boots looks better than with slim pants, which is why it’s a good idea to have a chic pair of skinny jeans on hand for all your fall outfit ideas.
The piece de resistance of this classy fall outfit is the suede jacket, a timeless style to definitely add to your wardrobe essentials this year.

Pro-Tip: For those who still love their skinnies, opt for ivory or black jeans for the most timeless look in 2024 and 2025. Pair skinny jeans with a matching knit top and you have a casual chic outfit. Tonal or monochromatic are key elements when styling these classic pieces together.
3. Knit Pullover + Collared Shirt + Denim Skirt
A denim midi skirt styled with a button down shirt and a knit pullover creates a casual fall outfit. Perfect for school, a fall date night outfit, or a smart casual office look, modern and chic. Take outfit inspiration from the collegiate academia aesthetic and style yours with a pair of loafers and knit socks.
A three-piece outfit is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, based on the rule of thirds. I love that you can layer a plaid blazer or a trench coat over this fall outfit and run out the door.

4. Button Down Shirt + Vest + Trousers
I’m sure you’re no stranger to the waistcoat and vest trend that’s been going on for a few years at this point. However, I still think this timeless piece looks best with a pair of matching trousers and a classic button down shirt. This is corporate chic at it’s finest–and you don’t even need to step foot in the office to pull this look off these days!

Honestly, if I was still going into an office these days, this is exactly what I’d style as a fall work outfit. Keep this chic, fall look fresh all season long by swapping out the button-down shirt with a different color, fabric, or print.

5. Oversized Knit + Mini Skirt + Tall Boots
I’m a little obsessing over this next fall look because of the oversized knit and mini skirt combination. Not that anyone needs permission to dress a certain way (outdated fashion rules UGH!), but I feel like we’ve been given permission to style these pieces together, FINALLY. Maybe it’s just me, but I dig.
Anyway, another reason to love fall fashion is for those cozy, chunky knits that keep you warm. Styled with a contrasting piece like a mini skirt, and tall boots (or over-the-knee boots, if you will) creates the perfect, fall outfit for college, a first date, what to wear to a fall concert, or girl’s night out.

If mini skirts are out of the question for your wardrobe, try belting a chunky knit over a slim, maxi skirt instead.
6. Slim Knit ToP + Relaxed Denim + Suede Belt
Last, but not least is an everyday, casual fall outfit for working from home, running errands, or hitting up the farmer’s market on the weekends. I personally love the contrast of a fitted, knit top with a pair of relaxed, dark denim to create a comfortable, but chic fall outfit that you can dress up or down with a leather jacket, a blazer, or a cropped jacket.
If you’re having a hard time getting on board with a wide leg jean, opt for dark denim or black. These colors look more elevated and style great with nicer tops, jackets, and footwear.
