Looking for the most stylish fall work outfits this season? Here are five, classy fall outfits for the office that are super easy to recreate!
Fall fashion is one of the most exciting things about going into the office–at least from what I remember when I worked in one. Moody colors, suede jackets, tall boots and the experimentation of different layers were enough to get me out of bed when that dreaded alarm clock went off.
Even though it’s been a few years since I left the corporate world, I’m just as in love with office outfits as I was back then…possibly even more since they’re no longer a “requirement” in my work wardrobe. What can I say? I’m one of those types that loves dressing up.
But, enough about me already! You’re here because you want to know what to wear to work this fall, yes?
And that’s what I literally woke up to: flashes of autumn office wear, styled with items from my beloved capsule wardrobe and sprinkled with inspiration from fall fashion trends. I’d already came up with several outfits before I even got out of bed.
These fall work outfits are chic, timeless, and best of all, they translate across any style type. The emphasis is on a business casual aesthetic, but you can style them with trendy fall clothes just as much as with a work capsule wardrobe. The best outfit formulas transcend style trends, so that’s why these outfits for work are so good!

Best Fall Work Outfits
1. Knit Top + Button Down Shirt + Belted Pleated Skirt
A classic, button-down shirt is a wardrobe staple, especially when creating fall work outfits. It layers well over a sleeveless knit top or a long sleeve turtleneck, perfect for the autumn weather (and chilly office temps). This shirt/knit top combination is easily styled with a trendy and timeless, pleated midi or maxi skirt.
However, the hero piece of this outfit is the waist belt. Waist belts help to add shape the body, which is great if you want to emphasize curves, especially with a statement belt. On the other hand, a belt that’s colored to blend in with your outfit is perfect for body types that don’t want to draw attention to their midsection.

Fall skirts look great with a pair of fall boots, one of my favorite things about this season! Style this look with monochromatic separates or try a contrasting look for more pop.

2. Boho Blouse + Dark Trousers + Dark Accessories
This fall work outfit is quite easy and incorporates one of the most coveted fall style trends from the runway: the boho blouse! I’m a firm believer of always having one of these blouses in your work wardrobe because it adds just the right amount of femininity and flow against the starkness of typical work clothes for women.

The best way to wear a boho blouse when styling fall outfits for work is with a pair of dark trousers. The flowy nature of the blouse typically adds volume, so a dark pair of pants helps to ground and balance that volume. A high-waisted trouser also helps to balance the volume of the top as well.
My other style tip for the best work outfits is to match your accessories on the bottom to your pants, such as a belt and pair of flats. Not only can this help to elongate your legs if you’re petite or curvy, it also provides a more elegant style, perfect for a business casual office.

3. Maxi Dress + Belted Sweater + Tall Boots
The easiest way to make those lightweight dresses such as a slip dress, shirt dress, or midaxi dress into professional work outfits is with knitwear. While cardigans are more on trend than ever this fall, so are belted knitwear, which certainly makes cute fall work outfits for those who like to step a little outside the typical “work dresses” box (AKA, non boring work outfits, if you’ve used that Google search before 😝).

Whether it’s cashmere sweater on a chilly fall day or you choose a more lightweight knit, the most important style tip is to make sure you’re following the rule of thirds. The length of your sweater takes up 1/3 of your body or you style with a contrasting belt. However, some you may prefer to skip the belt and experiment with a longer knit for a drop-waist style that’s also on trend for fall 2024.
You can also match the color of your tall boots to the color of your dress for more cohesion and elongation of the lower body.

4. Tonal Separates In Fall Colors
If you’re a fan of classic or trending fall colors, why not style your fall business casual looks as such? It’s a joy to dress like the changing of the seasons, whether it’s for fall office looks or for a fall wedding. Fashion should be fun and this is one way to incorporate more fun into a fall work wardrobe.
Tonal dressing is when you style your clothes with separates in the same color family to create an almost-layered look, which is key for creating chic fall work outfits that aren’t too flashy.
Classic fall colors include camel, tan, brown, olive, goldenrod, taupe, and varying degrees of red, yellow, and orange. Warm tones are highlighted during this color season, which are so beautiful, but might not flatter all complexions, especially those with cool undertones and ashy hair (AKA, me).

If you’re cool-toned, opt for cooler versions of these colors such as a dark sage or olive green that has more blue to it than yellow, ash brown or espresso, grayish taupe, or reds that mimic raspberries and red delicious apples.
If you do style warm colors in your fall outfits for work, here’s a few fashion tips to balance out that warmth: Black accessories, pearls, and shiny silver jewelry can also help balance any coolness lost when wearing warmer shades. Lastly, keep your make-up cool-toned as well, so your complexion isn’t dulled or sickly.

5. Collared Shirt + Sweater + Pencil Skirt + Boots
I’m ending this fall workwear line-up with a classic outfit combination: a collared shirt layered under a semi-fitted sweater with a pencil skirt. This timeless style is perfect for corporate outfits and teacher outfits. The trendy acadamia aesthetic isn’t going anywhere. So I say, let’s capitalize on it.
Make this stylish work outfit trendy and modern with a maxi pencil skirt and a pair of tall boots instead of pumps. Opt for a sweater with a wide crewneck or a v-neck, depending on what flatters you the most, though big-busted women may prefer a deep, v-neck.

That sums up this list of stylish fall work outfits for 2024. What I love most about this fall outfit inspo is that all of these looks can be layered underneath with fall work tops such as thin turtlenecks and thermal tights when the weather really drops. These autumn work outfits also look very chic with cropped jackets and classic blazers (chic fall jackets), and all kinds of fall shoes.
The style options and colorways are endless or as simple as you want to keep them, which is the beauty of a capsule wardrobe made modern each season. Very Parisian chic, IMO.
