While high summer hits the northern hemisphere, I can’t help thinking about the endless array of new fall styles with which to adorn my body with next season.
I mean, is there anything better than fall fashion when it comes to autumn? Sure the leaves change color, the days get cooler while the humidity of summer zaps away, apple picking, pumpkin spice, Halloween, and everything nice…and fall runway hitting the high street? Okay, the entire season gets a “100” in my book.
And there’s a lot to look forward for 2024 fall styles from draped silhouettes, ladylike embellishments, elevated plaids, gorgeous shades of olive green, statement jackets, to chic layering. If you were feeling any certain way about the past few years of fashion being void of personality and depth, you can rest easy now. Color is back! Embellishments are back! Pants are back (as if anyone actually stopped wearing them…)!
If there was ever a time to refresh your closet and get your groove back, this is your year.

1. Outfit Of The Day (But Make It Elevated)
Fall winter 2024/2025 fashion trends mark the start of a return to getting dressed, if you will. Designers on the runway agree that elevated day dressing makes a comeback! For anyone that loves clothes, I feel like this is a HUGE YES! This time around the emphasis is on femininity, wearability and timelessness, perfect for a day at the office, running errands, working from home, and even on the weekends out!
From relaxed trousers that feel as good as they look (so those leggings only make their appearance at the gym or on the dog walk), to sleek turtlenecks that keep the body cozy and comfortable, to that tailored coat with a pair of wide leg jeans and a long scarf these styles are why we get dressed in the first place!
Attention to detail is pertinent–make those accessories a part of your outfit (rather than just wearing a belt because you needed to hold your pants in place)!
The last few years of ultra-casual everyday outfits pushed the boundaries of how undone one can look and still walk out the door…which honestly I never understood. If I don’t look good my best, then I definitely don’t feel good either (and I’ve tested that idea many a time!).
The focus of this “trend” is more on the mindset of choosing elevated, feminine pieces that feel good to wear, are comfortable, presentable in different environments, and that pair well with the rest of your wardrobe. I see this as mixing the elements of a solid capsule wardrobe with more trendy styles to make it your own.
Opt for a chic cardigan that’s just as warm as your favorite hoodie and pair it with relaxed wool trousers and a broken-in loafer. Try finishing your outfit with a tailored wool coat rather than a puffer jacket when you’re running errands. Dress to impress, but all day, everyday…or at least when you’re leaving the house.

2. Plaid Takes On The World
It’s no surprise that plaid entered the conversation in terms of fall winter 2024 fashion trends on the runway this year. However, this is more than your run-of-the-mill plaid shirt spotted at every bonfire, pumpkin patch and fall festival. If the whole pumpkin spice aesthetic made plaid basic, this trend makes plaid cool again.
This is the grown-up version of plaid…or tartan should we say?! Honestly, the color options varied by designer, but one thing’s certain: this style looks great on everything from full-length maxi skirts to statement coats, and matching tweed sets.
Now you don’t need to wear a full-plaid outfit to sport this style trend for fall. A chic blazer or even an accent piece like a scarf is easily paired with a minimalist wardrobe or all-black look for a timeless, everyday outfit.
Plaid is one thing that doesn’t need to go out of style if you shop for the right pieces. Stick to classic wardrobe essentials such as scarves, wool coats, pencil skirts, maxi skirts, or even a sweater vest. Or, opt for a sleeker button-down than a traditional thermal such as a silk, satin, or silk-cotton blend for the office. Choose colors that flatter your complexion and play nicely with the rest of your wardrobe for maximum wearability.
I personally found a vintage wool coat from the 1960’s on Etsy with a detachable cape a few years ago. It’s one of my favorite pieces and never ceases to bring compliments and spark conversation when I wear it out. Cannot wait to wear it this fall!
3. FURRRRREAL Or Not?
The cooler days of fall and winter call for warmth and coziness, as is the overwhelming evidence of fur and all things plush on the runway for fall 2024 women’s fashion trends. And with the ever-increasing push for ethical fashion from both designers and consumers alike, the faux fur styles just get better and better each year.
Whether you’re in the market for a vintage fur, already have one collecting dust for that special day in your wardrobe, or keen to purchase one of these cropped faux fur coats that will be everywhere come fall…there’s no need to save it for that wedding in November. Style yours with jeans, dresses, skirts, leather trousers and make it part of your elevated outfit of the day!

From Chloé to Isabel Marant, this trend embodies all the best of bohemian style for 2024: drape, feathers, fringe, a touch of western, dreamy vibes, lace and sheer, chunky jewelry and cute leather accessories to tie it all together.

5. Dress Like A Lady
Designers paid an homage to the 1950s and 1960s this fall fashion season with classic, ladylike styles such as matching tweed sets, shift dresses, plunging necklines, and court shoes (aka classic pumps). This fall style trend definitely keeps in-line with the overarching “dress to impress” concept that’s re-emerging since before the days of 2020.
Think of a modern take on “ladies who lunch” with wool car coats, floral dresses, pearl necklaces, pointed toe pumps, silk gowns, cashmere cardigans and pencil skirts. The trend brings to mind the FX mini series Feud: Truman Capote versus The Swans, if you’re looking for more inspiration on how to wear this elegant style.
Whether you’re one to embody the entire elegant aesthetic as part of your workwear or special occasion, I personally love to take bits and pieces of each trend and add them to part of a casual outfit to take things up a notch. In other words, those chic lady jackets that have been in every store this year aren’t going anywhere!
Consider yourself more of a tomboy or just love to live in jeans and trousers? Go for a structured handbag, a pair of pointy toe patent leather pumps, or knit cardigan with pearl buttons to style with the rest of your casual outfit. Last but not least, and my personal favorite of these fall 2024 style trends is juxtaposition! Juxtaposition is using contrasting pieces to create something unique. While this concept is nothing new to the world of fashion or style, it’s something I noticed a great deal more on the fall 2024 runways than in years past.
To me, the notion of juxtaposition follows the concept of owning your sense of style. While one and done pieces and matching sets always have their place in a wardrobe, it’s the ability to pair together different separates and accessories to create a fresh look. Use unexpected pieces to liven up an ensemble of basics or your go-to capsule outfit, a popular method used in Parisian chic style.
This season designers played with different layers, silhouettes, aesthetics, and textures to create interesting runway looks that embody everything I love about the fall. Rather than basic and boring, even simple pieces paired together can create the most interesting outfit-trés chic!

Most definitely not! Per my post, some of the trends are showing more feminine, tailored outfits as opposed to the oversized looks of the past several years.
